Behind the Camera

Although corporate social responsibility is not technically a requirement, it has progressively become a necessity for every major company. NBCUniversal is no stranger when it comes to the necessity of good CSR.

I only had to be on their website for 30 seconds to find their companies values, something that isn’t always easy to find on other global companies websites. CSR is all about reputation and if a company isn’t creating good in their community than they are looked down upon.

Who is NBCUniversal?

NBCUniversal is much larger than we realize, it is one of the world’s leading media and entertainment companies that communicate globally to consumers every day. They were the creators of monumental movies like Harry Potter and Shrek. Along with some of our favorite shows like Saturday Night Live, The Voice, and Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

More Than a Camera

NBCUniversal decided to target their efforts into diversity and inclusion, helping expand the entertainment industry.

“At NBCUniversal, we celebrate diverse cultures and backgrounds by presenting positive role models, telling diverse success stories, commemorating heritage, and fostering dialogue on a variety of platforms, to create powerfully engaging content that makes a real difference in people’s lives.”

As a global company, you have to do more than just say what you believe in . . . you have to prove it.

NBCUniversal proves their dedication to diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry with not only several initiatives but they have also created a Diversity Council within their company.

Their most recent initiative took place in New York, where they sponsored Pitch NY. Pitch NY is a workshop for aspiring filmmakers, producers, and writers that provides them with the tools they need to be successful in the industry. NBCUniversal Teamed up with The New York State Governor’s Office of Motion Picture, Television Development and the National Hispanic Foundation to focus on themes of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disabilities and more.

Another Recent initiative includes its Global Talent Development & Inclusion team launching a new website. This website is a resource for writers, directors, producers and actors in the industry, focused on “empowering unique voices.”

NBCUniversal did not stop there. They have several employee resource groups like Black Employee Network, Women’s Network, and OUT. Throughout the year they also host a short film festival, a 12-week writing program and an inclusive stand-up club.

NBCUniversal Has Concurred CSR

CSR is something that goes on behind the scenes, something that the average consumer doesn’t see. But when CSR is forgotten about the entire world notices. So next time you think CSR is overrated think again.

Consumers need to start exploring the companies they love and trust. Why trust and support a company that doesn’t do the same for you?NBCUniversal is a prime example of what it looks like to not only support their employees but their community.
