Celebrities are Saving the Earth One Music Video at a Time

Rapper Lil Dicky sure knows how to get the world’s attention. On April 18th, he released a new song called ‘Earth,’ featuring nearly 30 different A-list celebrities. Now you may be asking yourself, who is Lil Dicky and how did he manage to get Leonardo DiCaprio and Snoop Dogg to be in the same video? Well, a great cause like saving the Earth can.

Who is Lil Dicky?

Lil Dicky, whose real name is David Andrew Burd, is a well-known rapper and comedian. Before his career in music, he worked at Goodby Silverstein & Partners, an advertising firm, as an account manager. He then decided to quit his job and spend his life savings on creative music.

His musical career officially took off when he released the music video for his song “Ex-Boyfriend.” The song is about his reaction to meeting his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend saying “He’s got the thickest head of hair, chiseled jaw, an egregious bod.” Lil Dicky’s use of humor caught the attention of many, making his name known.

What is This Video?

Lil Dicky teamed up with producer Benny Blanco, whose previous works includes Kesha’s “Tik Tok” and Katy Perry’s “Hot N Cold,” to create this song. Together they got 30 recording artists to collaborate on this single, some including artists like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Halsey, Zac Brown, Lil Jon, Adam Levine, Charlie Puth, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and more.

The music video opens with a news broadcast, warning viewers of the California wildfires. We are then transported to a cartoon world, where Lil Dicky along with the help of other artist expresses their appreciation of the earth. Each artist portrays an animal to emphasize the reality that our actions are impacting more than just humans.

Lil Dicky not only expresses his love for the earth but the danger it is in. The song discusses our earths ongoing issue with global warming, pollution, and how humans must reduce their carbon footprint. Lil Dicky ends the video with a PSA: “scientists are saying we have 12 years to turn this environmental crisis around or we are screwed.” The 7-minute video is a call to action to people everywhere to wake up and realize the Earth is in need our help.

So Now What?

Lil Dicky didn’t stop there, not only did me make a PSA about saving the earth but he is giving people the chance to save the earth. His video directs viewers to his website welovetheearth.org, as he ends the video saying “Let’s raise some money for charity.” Viewers can help the cause by simply streaming and sharing the video because all profits will go towards the earth. His site educates viewers on what the problem is, the solution is, and how they can help.

Now, this is where Leonardo DiCaprio comes into play. Lil Dicky has teamed up with the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, whose mission is to protect the earth and its wildlife. When viewers go to click ‘join the earth’ on the website they are invited to sign up for a newsletter created by Leo’s foundation where they are encouraged to donate.

Other features on the site include a tab called “act now,” where viewers can sign a petition on restoring nature, taking a quiz to figure out your carbon footprint and registering to vote. Lil Dicky also created merchandise and every penny made from it will go directly towards helping the earth.

Lil Dicky found an innovate and intriguing way to raise money and awareness towards helping save the earth. By banding together 30 artists he has managed to get 42,439,583 views on YouTube in just six days, creating a buzz all over the world about saving the earth. Lil Dicky proved that he is not your typical rapper, he decided to use his platform to send a message to his fans. Calling them to action to help a bigger issue that everyone on earth is facing.
